Experience and Insight from a Law
Professor Focused on Ethics and Education

Bernie Burk is a law professor whose work focuses on professional responsibility, legal ethics, and the economics of legal education. He has taught at multiple U.S. law schools, offering courses in civil procedure, remedies, and ethical lawyering. His experience bridges both academic theory and legal practice, grounding his perspective in the real-world complexities that shape the legal profession.

Before entering academia, Burk spent more than two decades in private practice, with a concentration in attorney conduct and professional liability. As a law professor, he has also contributed expert insight in legal malpractice cases and served as ethics counsel for legal aid organizations. His writing and public speaking explore how institutional structures affect professional standards — and how law schools can evolve to meet today’s demands.

Across teaching, research, and consulting, Burk remains focused on the systems that shape legal accountability. As a law professor, he continues to examine how ethics and economics interact in both education and practice, with a commitment to clarity, transparency, and thoughtful reform.
